THE PUBLIC PHOTOGRAPH

Assignment Two: Multiples

For this assignment, you will produce a work that relies on multiple reproductions of the same image, which are then disseminated in some public form. This may be interpreted very broadly, including such options as:

  • postcards or other images in the mail
  • stickers
  • wheat pasted photocopies
  • give aways
  • magnets

Or other options. Be creative! You are not strictly limited to one image—there may be several versions. But the spirit of the project is to explore what happens to an image when it is repeated and viewed publicly.

The most important objective of this assignment is to produce a work that benefits from being seen in multiple form, or where the image's multiple reproductions are inherently related to the concept of the image or the concept of the project itself.

Due date: February 19. On this date, you must have already installed your multiple piece, or distributed it. For critique, you must show documentation of the work. I.e., if it has been installed publicly, we will view photos or video of it. You may also plan to bring the group to see the work if it is in public and close to campus.
